I normally keep myself logged onto this site, I find it easier to be able to add a post without the faff of logging in each time. Recently I have tried to add or reply to posts but on each occasion the message just sits there without loading, repeated pressing 'Create thread' has no effect. Today, just as a test I logged out and then back in, created this thread and hopefully it has worked. Is this something that has been happening to other people, or is it just me.

      Phil

Edit. I've partially answered my own question as I see it has worked.

          Hi Phil,

I log in and if I then go to a different website when I return to this site, even 10 minutes later I have to log in again,it is a pain and I have given up trying to work out why. Its probably why I don't post more but I like this forum so the problem is just a sometime irritation

It would seem that changing sites is construed as an intended 'log-off'. I log-in in the morning and remain so until shutting down at bedtime – as with my other 'regular sites. On occasion, if I leave it on overnight, I find that I need to log-in again next day – so, presumably, automatic log-off at midnight?? Fairly sure it's the same with other sites.

I was plagued with continual logging on. I could leave the forum page on the screen and come back 20 minutes latter to find that I had to log on again!

Initially I could stay logged on for months without a problem, shutting down the computer didn't log me off.

Now the site has reverted to me logging on and staying logged on come what may! I don't think the problem has been with my computer as nothing has been change on it for a couple of years. Something a bit odd with he site methinks.

                Andrew.

When you go away from the site and return do a 'Page Refresh'. It will all come to life again and up to date.

Thanks for all the replies, it does look as if it is just another peculiarity of this site. I am a member of other forums where I don't need to log in from one month to another, unless I specifically log out, but at least I now know and I am not alone.

What nothing? No Microsoft or anti virus updates?

If you log in with another computer it kills the previous log in. If you have ever logged in with a smartphone or tablet it may well be quietly trying to log in even when you think it is off. It might be that if you use more than one browser on a single computer that is trying to be clever and update the site too. A whole bunch of other funnies in browsers and computers.

I think the site does eventually clean itself out and get people to re-log in every few months. As Neil mentioned onece before on another thread the host server has to maintain a list of all the currently logged in people and check them when a connection starts. This list becomes cluttered with entries for once a month participants so has to be cleaned to stop the startup being slow for those of us who can't stay away.

Continual log in is a pain , keeps telling me it doesn’t recognise me, been on and off the web site for about 6 years , what’s going on?

Are you checking the 'remember me' box when you log on?

Someone with this problem contacted me last week, it turned out he had his computer set to delete cookies whenever he closed his browser.

Also logging in on other computers/devices or into other MTM websites will log you off.

Sometimes it is just something about your browser setup and will stop happening at random after an update.

The site also logs you off whenever the server updates, which can be once in a month or several times in a few days.

I stay logged on my laptop and my phone 24/7 the only time I have to log back in is when I do a history or cache clean up.
