Having struggled to clean out he threaded hole on the leading edge of my S 7 saddle, the one that takes the bolt for the travelling steady, I found that the end cap from a Bic Biro seals this hole perfectly and stays in place during cleaning
I have seen various ways of protecting this area of the Myford. My own solution is a length of AA angle secured by a screw in the threaded hole mentioned. The upright leg of the angle sits snugly against the edge of the cross slide and is faced with Fablon velour to keep out the muck.
