Dunno if it's an April Fool trick; they seem to be selling it online here.

Oops! I've just clicked on the Further Info link…..

Should have realised, 'cos the table is flat, with nothing to secure the radial arms in which the jaws run.

Other than that, it's pretty plausible.

Lee Valley have an April Fool Tool every year.

Personally I much prefer this one

Andy, the arms actually have a pin in the end that locate in the holes around the hub.

Looks easy enough to make. At last I have a use for that diff crown wheel I've got in the scrap box.

Jason, wait a few weeks and that plane shroud will be a mandatory HSE requirement, get your order in now.

Andy – there are holes in eth centre plate into which the arms peg.- perhaps it is a real prototype!

To me it looks like a big scroll chuck, would actually be quite handy at times.

I just figured out the catch… to hold irregular objects (that chair seat for example) the dogs need to move independently, and they don't. But you could hold symmetrical objects or produce custome jaws for odd shape, only worth doing if you are making a lot though.

To my eye they do appear to be independenly movable, firstly by having them set to the aprox position before engaging with the central gear, and secondly it seems to show the jaw nuts are some sort of half nut arrangement.

Seems a lot of trouble just for an April 1st joke.

                              For anyone who has not yet found it;

here is a link to the ten AFD products they have made so far.

                                Sorry folks,

                                That link may not work
… if it doesn't,just put AFD in the search box.

Just looked at all the different tools. If you read the 'second pages' you'll discover they all really work, although they are impractical (except the story tape which is real).

I also notice that they are all beautifully made.

I like the pocket dovetail tool illustrations of where to use it. As engineers we could always make some of these.
