      Hi Dears!

Not that I’m looking to avoid any forced jollities over the xmas period but…

I’ve recently acquired a MiG welder, and have access to an array of mild steel of various profiles, inc 90deg angle irn.

I thought I’d try and make a small trolly for my rather heavy toolbox (which currently weighs 25kg) – perhaps with a foldable handle.

If you find yourself in need an escape from sage and onion and offcuts of cold Turkey, I’d be very interested in any easy to follow designs that some of you skilled hands may have. As a School Technician this would be something nice to show the kids too.

..Help a real bearded fat man today 😉

      box dimms: 540mm (L) x 220mm(W) 320mm(H)

      Thanks in advance

      ..and merry xmas!

A lot of fitters in industry seem to make a simple angle iron frame, into which their toolbox fits. At the midpoint beneath is a tubular axle, and the wheels are often ball races, if not conventional wheels. At the front is a handle, angled forward, to make towing the trolley more convenient.

          Sort of copy this https://www.woodsideproducts.co.uk/99161-woodside-multi-purpose-sack-truck.html
with whatever improvements you can think of.
Starting point is what wheels you have. Scrap lawnmowers are a good source.

My roll around tool chest Dolly was made long ago.

Two long pieces of inch angle the length of the box, two short pieces the width of the box.

If the box has a drawer don’t forget to insert one of the long sections to let the drawer open, if not just build a frame to suit the box.

I’m not advocating stealing, but if you find an abandoned shopping trolley lying around the casters are bang on for this type of project. Bear in mind I found three such trolleys on playing fields near my home, I called each store and told them I’d recovered them to my address. I was assured they would collect them in a couple of days, never did so they were repurposed.
