      Hi Guys,

I thought I would post this link to a recent You tube video showing a Lorch KD50 lathe. I suspect that the a few of you might turn a delicate shade of green, face 7

If any of you have a few days spare I can heartily recommend watching the rest of this chap's videos, in fact I am coming around to the thought that they should be compulsory viewing for beginners, not because of the watch making aspect but to open their eyes as to what is possible.

      Enjoy!

PS If any of you most generous chaps have one of these lathes complete that they want give away, I know of a good home.

While I'm sure it is a beautifully made lathe, I found the video a bit like watching paint dry. The time taken to set it up to do things that most lathes can do instantly was astonishing. It seems to me that it is the fantastic range of collets that make these lathes exceptional – and in reality, in these days of readily available good quality ER collets, even this is more imaginary than real.

Very nice, would like to own one because I love beautifully made tools – but as an only lathe, it would drive me nuts.

            Hi David,

I said nothing anything about actually wanting to use it., can't a guy have some "jewelry"? Besides, the paint might get scratched.crying 2

              Chris,

I guess I was being a bit harsh. If one needed to do small scale work in a domestic room, it would probably be ideal – but there is nothing in the video that cannot be done on a properly equipped Myford in a lot less time.

Lovely little tool but would only gather dust in my workshop. Surprised to notice that some of the parts looked like they were plastic.

I think that there are some really good ideas here that would be very useful on any small lathe.

At first I thought it was a bit slow too – but then I realised that it was providing a lot of detail that otherwise might not be so obvious. I shall certainly watch this a few more times and make notes on some the accessories and ways in which certain attachments work to see if some of these can be used (probably in a much cruder fashion) on my EW.

I particularly liked the way the dog-clutch worked and I will now look again at the Martin Cleeve design for the EW. I think that vertical slide (and it's attachments) will also get looked at in more detail.

I don't make clocks but I'm sure there are many other uses for some of these devices.

                  Regards,
