Alfie, what happened about your 1960's bike frame with the stuck steering tube? There were a number of responses to the thread at first but no replies from you after a while.

A few years ago I 3-phased an EMCO Compact-8, which is what the 9×20 lathes were based on, IIRC.

The motor was a metric-framed motor; ordered one exchanged pulleys, and it bolted on with no issues.

Maybe one of the UK advertisers here would be able to help?

              Jimmy,

This thread is probably not the best place to bury your question, but, since you're here . . . .

We need a little more information about your lathe to give a definitive answer, the lead screw pitch at the very least or the make and model of the lathe itself will do.

For what it's worth, my 9 x 20 lathe (a geared head version badged ACIMEX BL-200) has a 3mm pitch lead screw and I have printed out and laminated for the workshop, a change gear chart as shown below. The gear labelled Z1 is attached to the spindle, Z2 and Z3 are intermediate gears and Z4 is on the lead screw. Where both Z2 and Z3 gears are shown, they need to be locked together, otherwise it's a three gear train. Hope that helps.

              Regards,

              John

                  Jimmy,

You can download the 9 x 20 manual from here….https://forum.chesterhobbystore.co.uk/post/920-lathe-manual-7111238

Several pages in , there is the thread tables showing the gear combinations required for metric or imperial
