Hi guy's – it's my time to request a little help if anyone is able.

On Wednesday I was invited to give a talk on my I/C engines to members of the Norwich and District SME. Whilst there I was given a sheet of drawings for a nice little .3cc diesel engine.

It was designed by 'E.M.A.' and was a 'Model Maker' drawing. It's a nice little vintage engine as it's design shows and some of the material call out is a bit unusual – how about cast silver for the contra piston thenwink – but it would certainly make for a nice subject to scale to the usual 5cc.

My question is – anyone one have any idea when this was originally published or indeed have any idea if the original article in Model Maker is available anywhere.

Hope someone can help – if you can much appreciated

      Regards – Ramon

            Hi Ramon,.

If you can find the relevant details, i.e. year, issue and page numbers the article is probably held in the British Library's journals archive at Boston (Lincs not Massachusetts) and your local library can request a photocopy (a scan these days I expect). There is a small charge for the service, I have managed to get copies of some really obscure articles from 1950s journals. They supposedly have copies of all journals regularly published in the UK.

            Best regards

            Terry

              Hi Again Ramon,

There is an American eBay auction here for the very plans you are looking for – at a price, but the seller may be coaxed into answering questions about date etc

              Best regards

              Terry

Hi Guys, thanks for the response so far. No luck as yet though.

The drawings are indeed the same Terry (only looked at them today as have been down since Tuesday with yet another dose of man flu – lots of pills to overcome the drippy nose bit on Wednesday night got me through to about 9.30)

Thanks for the link Jason – have just been through the contents but could only find reference to a 3cc diesel named Sioux by 'Tarentford' in 1959. Earlier contents have yet to be listed.

It would be nice to see the original article but it's not imperative – there's certainly sufficient info on the drawings when the time comes. Something on them I would consider a 'bit challenging' however is that the liner has a flange silver soldered to it – reasonable enough but the detail beside then calls for it to be hardened after soldering. Hmmm – I don't think I'll be going down that route somehowwink

It was a bit nostalgic seeing those covers on these Model Maker mags – bit before my time but the style was used on my first 'Aeromodellers' – love the car ones particularly which is strange becauses 'cars' have never really held any attraction – model or full size. It was also interesting to note how 'MODEL MAKER with Model Boats' suddenly reversed to sound the death nell of what appears to have been a really eclectic magazine with something for everyone. Ah, they don't make 'em like they used to

Thanks again, maybe someone will come up with something,

                  Regards – Ramon

                    Hi Rod,

Thanks for that, my library simply calls it Boston, The rest I assumed,

                    Best regards

Ramon, is that an error on your heading? should it be 3.0cc( 0.19cu) or is it a very small 0.3cc engine!!

Edit just looked at Terry's link it is small.
