When I bought my Boxford, many years ago, among other accessories I purchased the 3C collet attachment and as well as the standard set of Imperial collets, I purchased a set of BA hex collets.

I have used them extensively over the years, but always wished that someone made a backstop for the 3C collets. So I finally got round to making one.

As the 3C’s don’t have an internal thread like the 5C (at least any I’ve come across), I made it lock in place with an expanding sleeve.

Extremely useful it has been, and so thought I would post a few pics in case anyone else is using 3C or indeed morse taper collets, just to show simple a stop is to make.

Very nice piece of kit there, why not write it up as an article for MEW smiley

Thanks CoalBurner – May just do that, but will have to hone my drawing skills as I designed it on the back of an envelope.

            Regards

Thats very nice Barry, I still use 3c collets alongside ER32 I hope you do make an article of it.

If not would you be willing to disclose the dimensions?

              Regards

              Paul

                  Hi Barry,

I also have a Boxford Model BUD equipped with 3C collets and your device sounds like a very useful addition for repeat components. If you do make up some drawings I would be very grateful if you could let me have a copy I could send you my email address in a private message.

                  Best regards

                  Terry

                    Thanks Terry

Will certainly let you know when I have some drawings.

                    Regards

                      Nice.

Now how about one adjustable from frount?

Make the 'pin' on the stop screw a hex also with a screwdriver slot (which doesn't affect its stopping function), make the fit tight so locking nut not essential, and adjust with a screwdriver in small sizes and a hex socket on larger ones.

The picture is so clear a drawing shouldn't be necessary. Just remember to use a thread whose pitch helps make small adjustments by fractional turns eg 1mm or 20tpi rather than .8mm or 18tpi.

It's so neat I want to make one now and I rarely use my collets.

Sorry Bazyle and others ment as joke.

Use collent stops day in day out

                          5C abd 16C

and indeed adjust screw from frount is one way.

Doesn't fix the variable pull back due to variation of part diameter though does itwink
