Hey all,

I'm after shearing off two screws in the tailstock of my myford m type, which I think are 3/16 24 bsw

I've drilled them out and now I need to replace them.

There's a few sellers on eBay but the want between 10-20 pounds shipping to Ireland for 5 screws!

Anyone recommend somewhere more reasonable?

I can do you 1/2" and 3/4" mild steel roundheads (I think, I'll have to check up)

I buy BSW screws, nuts and bolts from my local hardware store. Although Australia went metric 40 years ago, the building trade still seems to use the old imperial stuff for some reason. They are just labelled as 1/4" x 1" screw etc. No idea about Ireland though!

3/16 bsf is nearly the same as 2BA, but 3/16 bsw is much coarser.

If you are sure you want bsw then try the trusty e-bay

Loads of BSW machine screws at work, at least 25 years old ex B&Q! PM me if don't have any luck, I will be going into work on Monday to collect the rent, and can pinch a few and post them to you!

I don't know what thread Myford used, but 3/16" BSW would be a poor choice. It's a small diameter rather coarse pitch thread, with the result that the slightest overtightening fractures the core. Been there, done that!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the tips and for the PM's offering to help. The 10-24 is probably easiest to try first, as I should have some lying around in work, if that doesn't work I'll try the next few options. I'll also try to remember to report back with some news hopefully.

These sound like the screws retaining the plates for the Handwheel. On a ML2 or ML4 they are likely to be 3/16 BSW (or maybe 3/16 BSF ? ) roundhead.

Take up the kind offer already made a few posts ago; You only need two!

I've got single machine screws from Accu before, so they might be worth a try.
