My work colleagues bought this Tameo 1:43 kit for me for my birthday back in June. I last built one in 1985 after seeing the real cars race at the '85 BGP and at a preceding test session. It's been a favourite car ever since. I've not built a metal model for decades, and things have definitely moved on – photo-etch parts, great decals etc.

Anyway, this is the result – if you click on teh thumbnail, then on the Thumbsnap preview that comes up, the full resolution image should appear:

Very nice. I have seen a metal model car with wire wheels. The wheel was made up from 4 layers of laser cut plate and looked really good when assembled. i think it was a bit larger than 1:43. As you say, things have moved on when these technologies are cheap enough to produce affordable models like this.

Thanks guys. Yes it was very kind of them, especially since I’m pretty sure they see me as being the oldest, grumpiest, and most cynical person in the office. I’d mentioned wanting to have another go at a 156/85 metal kit to a like-minded (modelling) pal at work, but that they weren’t cheap, and I’d got too many projects on anyway. A few months later I had one. Not only that, they’d found a long out of production Tyrrell P-34 prototype from Western Kits on EBay (in France!). My late dad built one for me in about 1976. I’d always wanted to re-build it with more details etc, but couldn’t do it – far too much sentimental value. Anyway, now I can. Some bits need refining, but hopefully the resin printer I’m getting at Christmas should make short work of that.

Tameo do various kits with different levels of detail. Some have full chassis detail. The older ones have photo-etched wire wheels which look beautiful at 1:43 scale.

              Cheers!
