111 Entry RAF – 50 years

OK this is a bit cheeky and not much at all to do with model engineering.

In October 2016 it will be 50 years since a group of 16 and 17 year old's took the queens shilling and joined the RAF. I was part of the RAF Cosford contingent.

We are arranging a reunion next year and by various means have found the whereabouts around 40 of us. The remaining 10 or so are proving difficult to track down. Hence this request.

If you were a member of either the Cosford or Halton entries please PM me. That's not to say the Locking entry can't help but most of the Cosford and Halton guys were posted to the same RAF stations and may have kept in touch. Any little bit info would help you'd be surprised how a little snippet of info has lead to tracking down the others.

Hopefully we may get some leads.

Pete, hope you have a good reunion, I went to my 50th last year, I joined the RNZAF as a Boy Entrant in 1964, we had a great time meeting up after all those years, also a bit sad to find that some didn't make it, although only one died in service(a helicopter crash).

The chap who started the organisation of the reunion had spent a number of years in the police force after leaving the RNZAF, so used his training as a detective to find us.

A similar story, only one died in service Soon after we'd finished training he applied for a flying commission and unfortunately was killed in a Buccaneer crash.

We found most through Google and the odd snippet of information. It was mentioned one of the guys had moved to NZ in the 70's, 10 mins later I was talking to him. He lives locally.

When we had found most people we had a practice reunion, about 2 years ago. Good job we did as sadly we've lost another since.

Here's hoping we find the others.
