      smiley great progress.

I would recess the top of the firebox. Is there boiler under it at that point?

The boiler goes halfway into the firebox. I will make the crank and try lifting it. Good idea with the recess though as even 1mm might help, thanks, Nigel

Thought it might be worth showing the bracket I made to support the head of the rivet inside the tender whilst I rivetted it

I made the crankshaft bearing blocks up out of a sandwich of parts. I then silver soldered these together using the Cookson Gold silver solder paste. The paste includes flux and silver solder all in one, it's easy to apply and you can compress it to a thin layer. When you heat it you see a flash of liquid silver and it's there.

At first I thought this paste was expensive, but you really don't need much at all and so the small tube goes a very long way.

I decided to bolt the bulkhead into the tender so that I could get access to the floor on this tiny model.

This meant that I needed to turn rivets into bolts. This was actually quite easy using a small homemade chuck.

I can then apply a torque to the rivet and thread a 1/16th inch bolt as 10BA

Probably this one, although I can't be sure. It's certainly a very skilled Nigel.

                    Thanks guys.

I can follow Nigel's wonderful work now.

I hope he wasn't too put off by this forum.

The format of the page isn't what I remember so it could be something going on there.

Fortunately there was a video hosted by YouTube and that lead me to a number of newer videos.
