I have a simplex boiler in good order other than for two side stay, inner firebox side, heads that have wasted due to overheating. These are in the top row nearest the tubeplate.
The boiler is tight when hydraulically tested at working pressure, there is no seepage from the stays and no deflection of the adjacent plate.
I suspect the problem stems from lack of penetration of the silver solder around the stay nut resulting in poor heat transfer under steaming conditions.
Has anyone dealt with a similar problem?
