Hi There

I have received a set of drawings of an unpublished design for a Great Northern N1 0-6-2 commisioned from Martin Evans just before he passed on.

I intend to publish this as a series of drawings in Model Engineer. There will be some photos as the locomotive is well advanced with the chassis and boiler at least complete.

I hope some readers will be interested in this blast from the past.

I am about to make the Boiler for my 9F Loco, The plan size shows a tube dia. of four and five eighths but I can get a copper tube of 4 and a half inches.

Is there a problen if I use the smaller dia.?

I would make up the dia. with cladding and insulation mtl.

I have a rolling chassi and have completed the Tender. The whole model now awaits the boiler and firebox. Have yet to make the cab.

Probably not a problem but you could roll the boiler to the correct size, butt strap the joint or have it TIG welded.

KWIL, is it possible, with slight reduction of thickness, to increase the diaby putting a piece of anealed tube in a set of rolls, and stretch the metal, for the above exampleto get a 1/8″ increase in dia the metal would stretch about 3/8″? Ian S C
