      Hi All,

I have been away from here for a while but here is the latest mystery item that has come in with an auction lot of general tools? Quite well made and now works after cleaning up; heavy cast iron base that is 6″ square; columns are 18″ tall.

Any ideas what it is for please?

      Cheers, Martin

A “lab jack” for supporting glassware likr a receiver from a condenser at the right height etc.

        Modern ones are mini scissor-lifts

I (using company money of course) bought something like that from Fisher Scientific for raising and lowering an automatic builders level to the height of a benchmark on a fabrication. This then allowed the positioning of other benchmarks so that when the fabrication was on site it could be levelled to the as built position. My thoughts on this item make me think of the early years of photography though.

            Nicely made.

If you are into photography, you could modify it to be a camera stand for copying.
