            Yes – the film might even be hiding a maker’s name or some other guide, as well as masking the shape to some extent.

            Don’t discard that wax – I think it can used again by very careful melting. The item to be protected is simply dipped cold into it.

              I can virtually guarantee there will be no makers name. Nearly all of this is made “at home”. Don’t really want to take wax off. It’s not hiding much to be honest.

                Removing the packing grease will give us a better clue. could it be some sort of clamp ? Noel.
