I have just returned to working on my engine after a break of probably 25 years !

I have the book and found some drawings but can’t find the drilling position for the driving pins.

The book page 72 does show a dim of 11/16” up from centre but does not confirm what it’s for – possibly the pins ?

Can anybody confirm the dim please as I don’t want to wreck my hub/wheels !

Thanks in advance.

Am sure I will have more questions as I try to remember what I did previously!

Built the boiler many years ago at a ‘summer school’ model engineering week at Loughborough College of engineering – professional boilersmith in attendance- happy memories !

Mine look to be at 5/8″ which just gives room for the small retaining screw at the peak of the lobe shaped hub. The hub cap needs the flange notching for clearance, if it were closer you would cut into the actual cap.

I think I’ll have a good measure up and locate the hub caps as well to be sure of not fouling the centres – good call !

Really like your spoke lining – is that paint or lining type tape ?

Found a load of my own drawings converting the Imperial to Metric (SI) thirty years ago ! My lathes and mill are Metric as was all the college machines I used before I got my very late Denford Viceroy TDS – a highly underrated machine (mine was lightly used from new by a friends dad).

The next job will be cutting keyways in the shafts and flanges which I’m dreading as my past experiences have been somewhat suspect ! Poor technique I guess!

Check the winch driving centre on the lefthand side it’s the most restrictive.

It’s yellow humbrol (the old gloss) applied with a ruling pen. I soldered a 1″ panel pin to the side of the pen to use as a guide. The reds are Precision Paints enamels, TE vermilion on the wheels.

I drilled mine at 17.5mm (11/16 being 17.4625), with the diameter of the hub cap centre at 23.8mm and the outer edge 33.35mm
