      Hi All,

I have an engineers microscope (OMT.. rebadged Zeiss Jena?) to which I have fitted a 50mp Chinese camera, a TFT screen and output to a mini PC (Win 11).

Can anyone recommend free or cheap measurement software?

Not sure about compatibility with your specific camera, but the free Amscope software [for Windows] is highly regarded.

        [ the Mac version is a very poor-relation ]

Not a recommendation, but just two I found:

          This might be educational:

A guide to digital microscope measurement software

What I found in searching is that if you look for ‘microscope measurement’ you tend to find things for counting cells (i.e. biological applications). You are wanting engineering/geometry applications, so you might have to be creative with your search terms.

            Hi Wilson,

            You could try this https://www.touptek.com/download/

For microscopy questions you could ask here https://www.microbehunter.com/microscopy-forum/

            Hope this helps,

            Peter.

I have the Insize usb camera and software. It came with a calibration card. If you change the the magnification on the one I have, then the calibration is no longer correct. Their software is free as far as I know. A lot use a generic imaging chip, but as for the specific software to make it work , I am not sure.

I have downloaded the software that looks to be a close to the spec of my camera and will try it out this weekend. My camera is a 200x  zoom but not sure of the chip MP.

The Amscope  software does not recognize my Insize USB Camera. Model ISM 200 . It is a 2MP camera.  The ISM Pro is no longer freely available it seems. It is now an old product and has been superceded with a product that has the camera and a screen in a stand alone unit.

Worth a try I suppose. Mine needs a laptop or pc ti make it work. Thd newer systems have a better scope and the large screen format makes them nicer to use.

What I do like about the one I have is I can take it to the lathe and look at the detail like a circlip groove or the surface finish of a part.

Edit: __ alternatively, if the camera is UVC there will be dozens of applications that can handle it.

I’m awake … when I should be asleep … Grrr!!

You probably know this already, Neil, but here’s the very brief manual for your software: http://www.insizeus.com/index.php/page-418-428.html

‘Reading between the lines’ it looks very much like there was a Windoze driver required for your camera, which may have gone the way of many others in the relentless march of ‘upgrades’

Unfortunately, I don’t have the skills to help 🙁

… Except to suggest that you find a Win7 PC to try it on.

                      MichaelG.

                      .

Note: [probably stating the obvious] … UVC, as mentioned yesterday, is Universal Video Class … and it means that a camera needs no dedicated driver.

Interesting workshop! 🙂  But anyway, I may be wrong but the sort of measuring software that is being talked about will only measure what’s on the screen, which depending on the magnification on the microscope, may be quite small. If you are measuring components larger than the screen, you will have to traverse the table and move the view. Can software handle this?

If you are simply trying to avoid all the micrometer head readings and inevitable sums and takeaways and mistakes, you could fit digital read-outs to the table instead.

I’m primarily interested in angles & radii so the micrometer heads, although useful, don’t help me without some additional math.

I have a couple of good suggestions to try plus I’ve been told to try “ImageJ”

Here’s some pics of the err… “workshop” or “death trap” as I might call it.

The not yet complete “Tower of Power” is a feeble start at trying to be more organised.

I wish you luck with that, Wilson … it’s very powerful, but I’ve never got to grips with it.

Note: There is also a version called Fiji which has a ‘friendlier’ interface.

Angles and radii….  I’m sure you are aware that here is a very accurate protractor in the standard ocular head, but looking at your pics, perhaps your camera prevents you from getting visibility of the protractor eyepiece this to note the numbers.

And I agree with the others, that’s certainly some workshop you have there !

If your computer is like your workshop then the software may already be there – just a matter of finding it. But in spite of the state of your workshop, I guess you can achieve what many of us dream of.
