In case anyone is missing the relevant info, this would appear to relate to a Wide Guide Myford Super 7, and the shim packs on the carriage.
I’ve never had to adjust mine, but if/when I do, I’ll move the carriage to the least worn part of the bed, likely near the tailstock.
Set up a clock gauge on the bed and see how much vertical play there is when lifting front and back of the carriage.
I’d then remove that amount of shims. If the play is intermediate between shims, take an extra one out and replace with one or more layers of thin paper to get the correct sliding fit.
