Any tips on how to hold 3/32 rivets in order to cut to length.

Drill a 3/32 hole in a piece of metal that is as thick as the length you want, poke the rivit in the hole and cold chisel off the bit you don’t want.

Hi, well I have used what I can only describe as mini bolt croppers.

I have one of those vice mounted cutters and very good they are too. I cannot remember where from but will look it up and post photo.

Images as promised, the std length when cut is 1/8″ so spacers/washers are used to make longer.IMG_3535 2IMG_3536 2

For more than a few rivets I make a small split sleeve in the shape of a tophat. That is used to hold the rivet in a collet on the repetition lathe and the rivet can then be faced/parted to length.

There are handy calculators for the length of rivet required, but it depends upon the exact snaps used, commercial or homemade, and is reasonably critical (within 5 or so thou) if a properly formed head is required.

I made a lantern chuck out of nut, bolt and piece of round bar to cut and thread rivets.

The round bar is almost split thru and the hex nut only welded to one side.

Just use the piece of round bar with hole to suit and hold in chuck if you only want to cut rivets.

It is an Arrand rivet cutter.  The owner retired many years ago and wound up the company.  I managed to buy one from his remaining stock shortly after.   It’s  a  real time saver

Ahh thanks for that Gordon I often wondered, it has their quality feel about it.
