I’ve acquired a part built one of these, complete with ME articles. The bell is supported above the clock by a sort of 3D wishbone arrangement, two semicircular hoops at right angles. In the ends of these hoops are pegs facing radially outwards. The instruction says to clip the assembly in place, but I can’t see any radially inward facing holes. Presumably these are to be in the 4 finials which go on top of the pillars, but, as they screw in, angular alignment would be difficult, and there is no indication of height. Anyone got any info?.

As I’m new to this type of clock bodging, expect lots more questions

I have just contacted the St Albans DMES member who is making one for advice. I think the hoops explain his last picture to the club whatsapp rolling some brass.

Hi Duncan.

I have just completed the bell stand on one the clock I am making.

I decided to fit the pins into the finials rather than the arms of the bell stand and you are right about the angular position of the holes in the finials. I just fitted the finials and tightened them and then set out the holes diagonally opposite each other. I have numbered the finials, square washers and columns to be sure they go back in the right place.

This is how I rolled the hoops

The bell is not really the correct shape for this clock but it is the best I can find/afford at the moment. If I can find a better one in the future I will remake the bell stand.

I cut the two half round rings in two and soldered them to a central disc where the bell is fixed.

I need to shorten and tidy up the length of the pins
