I’ve been using cap head socket screws for many years. I’m also a big fan of Torx screws if I can get them. I’ve recently noticed that cap head Torx screws are becoming more common on places like eBay and they don’t seem much if any more expensive than ordinary socket versions. Indeed, I’ve just bought some for a project. So if you need any socket screws check out the alternatives available these days.

I have bought Torx set (grub) screws, but these are still a bit harder to find. 😉

I’m all for Torx head fasteners. They’re far better at minimising cam out than PZ or PH (and even hex) – assuming you use the right driver, which in the case of casual users is even less likely than with PZ and PH.

The problem with the UK supply of Torx head cap screws is that they’re generally only available in either stainless or grade 8.

Yes, I mostly use stainless though so not an issue for me.

I dislike Phillips and Pozidrive with a passion and haven’t bought any for years when working with the brown stuff. I buy square drive (Robertson) or Torx.

Robertson ? I’ve only ever seen them in Canada, bought a screwdriver thinking they might spread but unused so far and that was 20 odd years ago.

Some commonly available decking screws have Robertson heads.

              Also some pocket hole screws.

And not BSW or BSF. What is the world coming to? 🙁
