Oh dear.  I am just setting up my new VM25 milling machine from Amadeal which includes 3 axis DRO. It is a D80 which I believe is a Ditron unit. I guess you all know what is coming next !!  The manual is as good as useless as far as trying to understand how to operate it. I am unsure what initial settings might be needed. Nor how to use the various F buttons. I would obviously like to be able to use the half / find center  function and the bolt circle function. I have tried YouTube for help but the few videos available do not help much. They show someone pressing buttons without explanation and it isn’t clear at all.
Does anyone else have this DRO and can share advice for this beginner ?

        Afternoon Steve

Why not ask Amadeal for useable instructions?

My thoughts also.  Although Amadeal are not the only machinery supplier to provide hopeless (at best) user instructions.  I’m sure most have never looked at what they send out.  Ask me how I know?

Thanks both. I will give Hugh at Amadeal a call and see if he can help. I need to speak to him about another matter to do with the z axis power feed kit bought as an extra with the VM25. Similar problems regarding no information or instructions from the manufacturer Weiss. I know Chinese translation can be a challenge worth trying to solve but hopefully without damaging anything or losing settings.

            I will keep everyone updated.

Try watching Blondihack’s video on her milling machine DRO.A very clear and well presented video explanation. A while since I watched, but she does cover using some of the functions including mid-point and bolt circles.

Weiss also have a lot of videos, this one shows fitting the Z feed to the VM25

Here’s a video showing how to use the bolt circle function on a Ditron D80. Hopefully it’s not one of the videos you haven’t found helpful.

I have a down loaded copy of a D80 Ditron manual that I could post in the Gallery if that is where the Administrators think it should go to make it more findable. I also have a 1 1/2 page cheat sheet also. Where should it go and how do I get there?

As the OP says the manual is useless then probably not much point is posting that.

For the cheat sheet go to your profile, click gallery, create a gallery, Select “document” from the drop down box below Type and take it from there

Thanks for all the suggestions.  I have looked at all of the channels and videos mentioned and find some help there.  However regarding the Weiss z axis power feed optional kit, Jason, the VM25 Z axis lifting motor video has only just appeared on the Weiss channel so it is new to me.  I have had to use the video they show for the VM32 which is subtly different but fundamentally the same process.  But… there is an anomaly when the VM25 is purchased with the 3 axis DRO fitted by the manufacturer.  The scale for the Z axis on the aluminium angle extends up past where the motor is mean to fit and thus the plate will not line up on top of the column as shown in the footage.  I have overcome this and extended the motor out past the DRO z axis scale by redrilling and tapping the holes on the top of the column. I have contacted Hugh at Amadeal to explain this and he agrees that Weiss did not factor this in for the sizing of the top plate.  This is just to alert any other buyers of the potential problem should they purchase the same items as I have.  Amadeal had a limited number of these machines with the X and Z axis power feed already fitted along with the 3 axis DRO, which I wanted to purchase, but the stock went quickly and I could only get one with the X axis power feed along with the 3 axis DRO. So I am surprised that the issue was not picked up at the factory.  Never mind, I can make it all work although the fixing is not ideal.  Its a shame that we have to rely on videos and forums to get help when the manufacturers should make more of an effort.  How hard can it be ?

Thankfully the forum has so many helpful contributors and the support from you all is much appreciated.

I will still keep you updated on any further developments.

                        Regards

                        Steve

The manufacturer normally supplies the manuals, the box shifters just shift the boxes and sort out the machine issues.

Most people think the best manuals come from Grizzly and for the machine that’s true.

For DRO they all have similar functions, try here at Sino theirs may have been done better.

I think I have made a gallery and down loaded the cheat sheet, now to see if Anyone else agrees with that.

                              Are we expecting too much?

                              nothing
