I’ve just skimmed through the January 2024 issue and must mention a couple of articles:

The cover feature ‘Three Nails in a Bench

… Precision Turning with Improvised Tools

      and

      How Computers Tell the Time

… The Operation of the Network Time Protocol (NTP)

      .

One could not wish for a more diverse range of Topics that stay firmly within the remit of the publication !!

Yes; I agree. I found both articles interesting, although the NTP article was of particular interest.

In general I find most issues of the HJ have something of interest, but the thought I have every month is that it is expensive for what it is, especially compared to the number of pages in the HJ in the 1970s. But given the relatively small membership of the BHI I suppose there is a correspondingly small pool of contributors.

Many of the photos are gorgeous, though!

I wonder how it compares with the contents of Clocks magazine?

I don’t really treat it as a ‘ magazine subscription’ [the price would probably be revealed as unreasonable] … but rather as a gracious ‘thank you’ from the BHI for supporting its  good work.
