      Hello All

Has anybody got any tips on removing staining on a machine vice. I have recently acquired one previously used with flood coolant, Then stored under a bench, consequently it was very sticky with gummy oil residue, once I stripped it down and cleaned it all off it works flawlessly, But Is spoiled with all the spots of stain, I know it’s only cosmetic but it would be nice if they could be removed easily without removing metal. Any ideas?

thanks in advance for all replies

      regards

      Paul

Would a chelating agent work ?

You can get it in gel form, apparently.

Thanks for replies, Been in the workshop all day today and took Roy’s advice. Started with the white one’s which were too gentle. So I switched to the maroon one’s they gave an excellent result. There is just 2 small places where there was a little pitting under the moving jaw. But I’m very happy with the result, hard work but great result. So Thank you Roy great tip.

            regards

            Paul
