I am aware that several members have had problems replying to topics and have made admin aware of this.

Anyone else with problems can also contact admin by following the links in FAQs/Help.

Gone barmy. I can reply to you obviously, but when trying to reply to others either via the ‘ latest replies’ OR the main headings it shows ‘log in’ at the top of my screen and although I’ve tried numerous times and closed/ reopened 3 or 4 it’s no different. Haven’t had these problems before today

Thanks, Mike, that is at least 5 people with the problem. I have let Andy and Darren know, this was Andy’s reply should anyone run into a similar problem to help him track down the cause

I’m unable to replicate this for these users with the current information I can see on that topic.

If anyone finds they have the issue again we could do with:

          *The date/time

          *The username

*The topic they are trying to post on

*A screenshot of the page including the address bar

*The device, OS and browser they are using

We can try and replicate this more accurately then and check logs. I can check the settings on the forum/topic and the users settings and privileges.

Something they can try should it happen again is to do a hard refresh by pressing Ctrl+F5, this will force a full reload and show if it’s a local caching issue.

As Jason knows I had this happen last Friday afternoon. I logged back in later in the afternoon and everything was fine. I assumed someone had fixed the problem.

            Regards

            Gray,

Same here. Can’t get it to misbehave now! If & when it does, I’ll collect as much detail as poss.

I appreciate how difficult it is to track down intermittent IT issues like this (been there, done that, got the tee-shirt).

This is a reply to JasonB’s topic “Unable to reply to a topic”,

Over the last few days, definitely Sunday, yesterday and this morning, after logging in when I try to look at recent topics it logs me out. I can then look at the topics as a guest. When I go back in I am told I am still logged in. This appears to be a day time event.

I have just found that I can reply to topics when the last post was made over 2 hours previously as a “guest”.

This is why I am posting this here and not “Unable to reply to a topic” where it should but I would never get that 2 hour period of grace. It would be nice if this could be moved to its proper place.

Jason if it does post feel free to delete

I had this problem when trying to reply to the TurboCad printing problem thread.

I’d viewed the thread whilst logged out, then logged in and re-navigated to the thread only to find no reply box.  I then came to this thread and found that the reply box was visible.  So, I returned to the TurboCad thread, where the box remained absent.  However, once I clicked my browser refresh icon, the reply box appeared.

Presumably this must be a caching issue, perhaps where previously loaded pages are not completely reloaded when returned to?

                    Hope this helps someone else.

Regards Tom (using Firefox with Ubuntu 22)

Following on from my issue I raised a few days ago on this subject, it occurred again today – was logged in but when going to reply to a RECENTLY STARTED topic it appears I’m logged out & can’t reply. Back to the home screen and it says I’m logged in! Repeated a few times, no difference.

However, I could reply to older topics. So yes, it appears to be a caching issue. Did a screen refresh and everything works as it should.

This is on an Android phone by the way. Never had this issue with the old website.

Similar problem to above but can reply to some subjects in the same forum group but not the top one. When clicking on this it displays as if I’m not logged in but for others no problem.

Makes the site something to be endured rather than enjoyed so not using it very much now.

Whilst not wishing to stir the pot … I think that closing line of Andy’s might demonstrate a presumption that the ‘Windows Keyboard’ is being used.

The forum website should, I believe, inclusively cater for a wide range of devices and operating systems.

For example … many of the issues have been reported by people using ‘phones.

Just confirming my earlier suspicions. Went to reply to a topic opened today (15th) at 06.25 ish and couldn’t . But (if I had wanted to) I could reply to some topics from yesterday. Went back to the original – still no joy. Did a browser page refresh and problem solved.

Now this times is was on the laptop (Windows 11), which indicates to me its not device specific (same issues on Android phone) just something generic with the website not clearing cache before loading / switching a page. (I’m not au fait with WordPress so can’t comment on if or how it does that).

Would think it should be something the developers could reproduce fairly easily

                                  Well Done Mike,

I logged in as usual, got the “log-out” at the top of the page. Went to “latest replies” hey presto got the “log-in”. Refreshed that page and here we are, I can make a post.

Not the best way, but at least it works.

                                  Regards

Well it’s all happened to me today tried to reply to a post got the 403 error thought I’d try logging out and back in could not log back in so tried on my windows laptop just the same gave in 2 – 0 to website. So just turned on my Samsung tablet and found that on this machine I was still logged in what a surprise can I post if your reading this yes.

One thing I have noticed which may or may not have something to do with issues I and others are having is that on this new forum you can stay logged in on a number of different devices at the same time but with the old forum I could only be logged into one device at a time.
