Arvo all,
Finally retired and have man cave workshop set up in backyard. Been playing around for ages now decided to get serious.
Building a 4 truck Shay in 5 inch gauge based on ” Greenbrier Cheat and Elk 3156″ just because my kids gave me Hiroko’s Shay book 20 years ago when I was a member of Bankstown Steam Loco Soc back in Sydney, they were getting toey as I had not used it. Didnt like the bar frames so looked for something with cast frames and 3156 popped up so I thought “why not, what could go wrong?”.
Plenty, see the first two trucks I knocked out, “not happy Jan” they look like something the apprentice stuffed up.
So started again, but first I decided to tidy up the “Bevel Gears of Parrallel Depth” info ( I cant remember where I copied it from on the net, can someone advise) by converting from “DP” to “MOD”, as I only have “mod” cutters. I attach that for comments and checking to ensure its correct. Going to cut Mod 1.25 gears 49 and 20 tooth as perthe original Shay.
