Hello everyone I have just got some Fryolux from an eBay supplier to make a small repair to the water tank lid of our Stanley steam car. However, the label has a 08 Feb 2019 expiry date!

Is is still usable or a rip off?

Hard to tell, these days … Many manufacturers caught-on to the idea of setting expiry dates as a way of increasing repeat sales !

I am using solder paint which the USAF threw out 20 years ago, I just thin it with a little liquid flux and it still works fine. I think it’s just the liquid flux element that sets the expiry date.

It would be simple enough to test anyway, on a couple of scraps of metal similar to that being jointed.

Thanks for your advice everyone, I sent it back & got a refund, it was nearly £30 after all!

Managed to repair the lid with some old solder and resin flux in the end.
