      Hello

just bought a semi indexing dividing head from vevro. Cut a few gears and am happy with the operation,BUT.

The spring is a bit “iffy” wonder if anyone else has one of these and come up with a better idea for the spring that goes between the sector arms and the handle>

You could try a ‘wavy’ washer. I have the Vertex branded version of this device and it has a ‘C’ shaped spring to increase the friction of the sector arms but I can’t recall it being unsatisfactory. I am about to cut some more gears so I will check to see if it can be improved upon.

Yes, it is surprisingly rubbish compared with the rest of the thing. I made mine reasonably acceptable by filing and bending it a bit.

I have the C-shaped spring thing. I increased the tension by increasing the bend and then discovered it worked best if inserted opposite the pinch bolt which fixes the angle of dangle. Don’t know why, may be a quirk specific to mine.

I think it is the best value machine tool accessory I have ever bought. Probably made by slave labour or some of Elon’s Optimus jobbies, I don’t care, I have mine.

            Smiley face, thumbs up.

              Thanks everyone,

using it to cut a set of gears for my Clarke lathe as i don’t have all the change wheels to do screw cutting it seems to cope well at the moment

Well, I have been using my Vertex branded dividing head today and just as I recalled there was no issue with the sector arms at all. The C-shaped thingy seemed to provide enough friction to allow a smooth rotation without slippage. I agree with Robin, it’s an excellent piece of kit no matter what the brand happens to be or where it originates from.
