      Help, please

My father inlaw who is now in his mid eighties has been a keen model engineer since he was 15 built the above model in 1980. He seems to remenber  the plans being in Model Engineer at about that time but can not be certain. Can anyone help with locating a copy of the original plans.

           Hi Richard,

The above is the only useful reference to the locomotive I can find in the online Model Engineer Index.  I don’t know if there were any plans there but the Author (A Hayden) apparently was the builder of the locomotive.  The only other references from later issues refer to this loco.  Many larger libraries have archives of the magazine or can get photocopies from the main Journal Archive (British Library) in Boston Lincs.  The Numbers in the table above refer to:
Year, Volume. Issue Number, and page, in that order.  That would be enough to get you a photocopy of the page from Boston via your local library.

          Best of luck

          Terry

This may be 10 years too late, but my grandfather owns this locomotive.

The following link shows the engine not running but in steam at our local ME club in westbury, wilts.

Ive driven the loco a few times and it goes very well indeed. A real credit to Austin Heyden.

Im always impressed with the turn of speed you get from a single wheeler!

              Cheers,

              Dan

No real help but the topic reminded me that I saw Austin Hayden driving his Lorna Doone at the IMLEC at Bittern park, Southampton in 1970. It was a very well finished loco.
