It's nearly here again! Everyone within reach of south Norfolk is invited to this year's event on Sunday 7th October.

As usual, we will have a wide ranging exhibition of model engineering inside the museum and a gathering of miniature road steam outside.

The miniatures – 15 at the last count – will have a run to the Norfolk Tank Museum a mile up the road. (Home of Guy Martin's WWI tank.)

We'd be very pleased to have some new exhibitors. PM me with an e-mail address and I'll send you details.

Hope to see you there. (http://www.forncettsteammuseum.co.uk/index.html)

      Bill.

Only a few days to go now.

We've had a excellent display of models promised, including some new ones. Indoors is pretty well full, but there is room in the yard for a few more miniatures. Please do let me know if you decide to bring something. (Unannounced exhibits – however welcome – are an organiser's nightmare.)

Hope to see you on the 7th.

          Bill.

Of course the reverse is also true; it's a nightmare for exhibitors if they don't know if they've got space allocated or not. crying 2

Does that mean you're not going this year Andrew?

I'd like to go, and plan to go. But it's quite a way (140 mile round trip) if for some reason I'm not booked in. After discussion on another forum apparently there is information on it's way. So I obviously need to learn to be patient.

Thanks for all those photos, looks like a good day was had by all and nice that a lot of the models were running.

Thanks Emgee for taking and posting these pics as a reminder of just what a great day out it was. Jason – you really do ought to come and join us – if only for once.wink

Running of exhibits has always been encouraged at the event – much appreciated by all who attend so long may it continue to be so.

                      Regards – Ramon

Thanks too for the pictures. Some of those models are way beyond the realistic aspirations of some of us! laugh

Thanks for posting all those pictures Emgee and for your kind comments Ramon. It was certainly a great day for the museum as well as for all those exhibitors and visitors that I spoke to. If I'd got my head round posting photos, I'd show one of the 12 ins scale Fowler ploughing engine spectacularly filling the road as it set off at the head of the run for the miniatures road engines. For those that haven't been to Forncett yet, do come and join us next year. Distance is no object – note Emgee's pictures of the Bristol and Anzani aero engines that Dennis Snaith had brought over 200 miles from Co Durham. Thanks again Dennis.

                          Bill.

                            Too true! crying 2

I was exhibiting next to Dennis and I couldn't fault the rotary aero engine, right down to the myriad of tiny castellated nuts on the cylinder heads. It turned out that Dennis used to fly gliders in 1960s, so we had quite a chat about flying. I mentioned that the only other person I'd met with the same surname was a Group Captain Snaith, back in the 1970s at Twinwood Farm just north of Bedford. Amazingly Dennis had met him; said it made his day that someone else mentioned him.

It's a shame I only met Groupie Snaith in passing. He was CO at RAE Bedford in it's early days. But prewar he was involved with the High Speed Flight unit at Martlesham Heath, and was part of the Schneider Trophy team.

If I knew then what I know now I might have asked some intellegent questions at the time.

Checking the pictures I realise there are no pictures of the exhibits from 2 fairly local model engineers who spent all Saturday afternoon carrying a very heavy display into the museum close to the Stamford engine and arrived very early Sunday morning to set up the compressor outside and test run the display before the public arrived.

The exhibit consisted of a large steam loco and tender with what I believe was a pullman car all on a temporary track at bench height.
Also a very large working crane, perhaps based on the British Rail type with endless pulleys and belts, it was mounted on a bogie and from memory was approx 3ft long.
Another model they displayed was a thrashing set consisting of a steam engine driving the thrashing machine feeding onto an elevator driven from a pulley on the thrashing machine which I guess was built 1" to foot scale so an impressive display.

My apologies to the exhibitors above and any others that didn't feature in my pictures.
If they are members here perhaps they can add some more details and pictures.
