Rather than post them all again here I have put my photos on MEM forum for those that want a look, and yes I have included a few Locos.

Had a chat with Diane and it looks like I will have to get typing but that man Neil was keeping his head down so I did not get to talk with him.

I didn't see the magazine represented in the foyer this year.

Indeed, I didn't notice the organiser's stand at all. Another show rather makes themselves hard to miss (sorry not very good English). Well the good news is it hasn't shrunk any further but only just enough traders to actually take my money, and £20 of that was the 'junk tool' stand which despite often being criticised I find is the only place for certain things like castors. Noggin End didn't have quite the bit of bar I needed but pointed out that if you email him in reasonable time before a show he is happy to prepare pre-orders as he knows he won't have to take unsold stock home again. Also works if you want a bit longer thatn the normal 1-2ft length.

Had a nice chat with Coalburner leaning on his Shaper on the SMEE stand. Talking of shapers I saw an unloved Adept No2 motorised under one stand, along with another hand shaper I didn't immediately recognise but might be the French mfr. Unrealistic price so has not been added to my collection but they did force a brand new 1HP motor on me for little more than postage would have cost if bought elsewhere.
There has been some talk on here about 3D printing patterns for casting. Well in the 'Maker' section they had all been at it in various ways with good results for wheels and other parts. One was, I think, printing in a wax substitute for high fidelity lost wax casting.

Thanks for posting the pictures Jason, I'm particularly interested to know if the Whittle V8 builder is a forum user, couldn't make out the forename but the surname is Wold on the builders plate.

On the yahoo Whittle group several engines have been built but the only one video'd running is the original Eric Whittle engine, other builders report no success, just wondering if this is a runner or display only.

EDVIND WOLD is the makers name from my unreduced image, no member under that name but may not be using his real name on teh forum.

I'll contact Eric Offen who was judging the IC engines to see if he has any more info, it did get a Gold.

I suspect I was far too smartly dressed, as I go buttonholed rather less often than at Harrogate! (Or perhaps the hard work of the last nine months has aged me prematurely…)

I may have to wear flashing deely-boppers, reindeer antlers of a full-size Adept lathe on my head on Sunday…

Unfortunately my wee session wasn't very well announced, because the SMEE meetings meant it hardly got announced over the PA :-/

The thing that struck me the most is how the surface finish of budget 3D printers has improved!

Edvind brought his marvellous V8 over from Norway, I'm not sure if he uses the forum,

I will be there tomorrow so please look out for me!

I will be uploading a great raft of pictures to an article over teh next hour or two, will announce when they are online.

                    Hi,

Edvind Wold is his real name. This is his website: http://www.missiseipi.com/

He is Norwegian and I met him this summer on a scraping and machine rebuilding course. He is a real gentleman and a wonderful model engineer.

Thank you for those pictures, for someone who has been house bound for ten weeks with several more to come with an Aircast on my right leg/foot, its the only way I'm going to see the shows, going to miss Alexandra Palace for the first time in years as well.

I notice that the LBSCR terrier in Jason's photo (and mine) appears to be a good match for Stroudley's 'improved green', yet to me it looked too dark and brown to the eye. It must be something to do with different types of lighting – I hope the builder wasn't marked down for having his model under the wrong type of light!

I can't comment on that as the only Terriers that I can identify have four legs and barkwink

Though when I was more into figure painting there were those who would paint to suit the camera for box art and web viewing but paint differently if then model was going into competition.

I did spot you in your best big and tucker taking your photo from teh top of the stairs while we waited below so knew what to look out for but did not see you again. I did hear the announcement about your open forum and it was about that time I decided to go homesmile p

I only 'heard' one announcement and it was less intelligable than a railway station. Didn't see any signs for talks, meetings or forums. Is age affecting my eysight or was teh signage less than obvious?

                                          Hello

Thank you all for your compliments on my Whittle V8 engine. I am a member of the Whittle yahoo group but have signed up under my full name Sverre Edvind Wold. But please call me Edvind.

I met Neil Wyatt at the Sandown show and he invited me to join this site. Thank you Neil.

I have been a silent follower of the yahoo Whittle group and have always read postings with great interest. I have built the engine according to the specifications given in the drawings supplied by Hemingway kits. I was also really curious if I could get my V8 to run and it did. So to my knowledge there is nothing wrong with the plans. I might have accidentally altered (slightly reduced) the height of the cylinders a little bit.

The show at Sandown was really fantastic and the organizers have done a marvelous job. Coming from Norway I was warmly welcomed and finally had the chance to meet some of the finest model engineers ever.

                                          Greetings

I'm afraid that due to personal circumstances they had to pull out, but they do want to be with us next year.

Hi Chaps. I enjoyed the show and as usual the work was outstanding. However . . .

Am I the only one concerned about the drop off on visitors and the collapse of trade stand numbers. I can only comment on the Saturday showing but at 2.00pm we saw one complete longest side of the RDG stand with no customers at all. At other shows at this time they are usually three deep all the way around. Considering that Chronos and Warco are usually present to add competition at said other shows this has to be some measure of visitor numbers.

Please don't get me wrong as I like the show and want it to continue but I worry it's not going to survive at this rate. When we arrived there was no one to take our tickets, no Model Engineer stand to fly the flag and the whole thing seemed to have a flat feel as if it hadn't really got going yet. I suppose the word I'm looking for is Buzz.

I did talk to one trader who said there were more people on Friday so please prove me wrong by telling me the other two days were packed if that is the case, but if the show was a Bank and the FSA had stress tested it I think it would have failed.

                                              regards Martin

I agree with Martin. I love the show but it does seem to be getting thinner every year. I go for the trade stands but there were even fewer this year.

I was there on Friday and just about heard the announcement about your meeting. The instructions were to take the lift to the second floor at 2.30pm. I did just this, but no one was able to tell me if the meeting had taken place or was even going to take place.

Thinking back, the announcement may have said 12.30, because it did seem sometime ahead of when the meeting should have taken place.
