I was just watching Jason B showing a engine on youtube. When it had finished a guy who built a corliss engine popped up. It is from 7 years ago. So maybe some of you may have seen it. I am putting a link to the video. It is absolutely stunning, just to see it running is a work of art.

      Steve.

Absolutely beautiful model, not totally sure about the lining though, a bit to jazzy for my liking. I like his mill, it looks like a two thirds size Bridgeport, can anyone identify it?

To See a REAL Corliss valved engine working visit the Forncett industrial steam museum, near Norwich ! Then marvel at a triple expansion pumping engine the size of a house in steam, and for novelty value the QUAD expansion launch engine ! Noel.

Is it really quad expansion some engines had 2 LP cylinders ii parallel instead of one massive one.

I would not know the answer to that. The thing just amazed me at all the work that had gone into making it.

Awesome work. Fascinating to watch all those linkages at work. Love the drip oilers on the eccentrics. Haven't seen that before.

Yes it is a genuine quad made by Simpson and Strickland.

Thanks Bernard, you beat me to it ! Yes, HP, IP1, IP2, and LP. If my memory serves me well it was tandem cylinders and double crank. Noel.

Yes the cyls have two different bores top and bottom, so you have two pistons on each piston rod. Like that the steam was used four times. They were originally designed for Naval use as they could rev fairly high and were used in high speed launches. If memory serves me right ,made in Dartmouth. We overhauled ours and it was surprising how much better it was after making a few new bits for it.

Wonderful model, though this trick with an angle-grinder is closer to emasculating the builder than I care for!

Must be wearing chain-mail Long Johns under his jeans. I expect Ketan sells them…
