Good Morning.

I've just found this forum, Its impressive how much info is shared here.

I inherited a load of workshop gear from my Dad a few years ago, and slowly moved it and set it up in our house.

I have added a 2nd Myford so I can have 2 lathes setup for different jobs to save time changing things over and just recently purchased the Optimum Mill/Drill which has already been very useful.

I have just received a Stuart 10V kit with the intention of learning more challenging machining, I have watched all of Andrew Whales "learning Turning" videos on youtube and now feel confidant to have a go. Just have to convert the dimensions to metric, The imperial fractions look like alien writing.

You have a well equipped workshop. As time goes by, you will be surprised at the the tasks that you can carry out.ta lot.

You should never get bored with the possible things that you can make or repair.!

Thanks Howard.

No I'll never get board. I have a couple of vintage British cars so I've done loads of basic machining, carb spindles, bronze bushes, cotter pins etc.

I need to learn more elaborate machining and thread cutting etc. I think the stuart will force some good learning.

Thank you John, I think it looks like I have more space than I really do, there's never enough space. I live in Auckland city.

I have 1950's Rovers and an old Land Rover. I brought my first old Rover when I was 18 and 27 years later I'm still using it but I have collected a few others during that time. ( Rover 90, Rover 75 Cyclops)

Hi Leon welcome to the forum there are many ways to make things. In the early days all parts were made on a lathe as mills were out of reach or pocket price. Holding in a four jaw chuck or a vertical slide. I seem to make tools to make my life easier and am in the process of making a self retracting screw cutting tool holder for my lathe at the moment. But just ask on here and you may get more than one way of doing a job but all knowledge is useful as long as you ask.

Hi Leon

Welcome to the forum. The Stuart 10V is a good start to engine building.

TEE publishing do a little book called Building A steam Engine From Castings. It is in print and about £9 plus postage,

There is a very useful website called mainstream.co.uk about repairing badly built Stuart engines.

I am not saying your engine will be bad but if you see the problems other builders have had, you can avoid making the same mistakes.

There is also a you tube series about building the Stuart 10V by, I think, an American builder that is well worth watching although some of his machining methods were a but suspect.

Hi Leon, Your Rovers are nice cars. I have had a 90 and a 95 P4 Rover as well as driving series Land Rover's for 40 years. Could not afford to keep them and my motorcycles on retirement an the bikes won . Enjoy the forum.

Welcome to the party Leon, my fellow members have said all I would have said ! I started with an Austin Champ, a Rolls Royce of 4 wheelers and gravitated to a Landrover S3 109 with a perkins 3.4 diesel, a real workhorse. I can tell you a few tips for landrovers. Best wishes Noel.
