I put this question here as it relates to a marine boiler now being repurposed for a stationary engine!

Originally it was heated by a paraffin blowlamp burner and I want to replicate the heat output with a gas burner. I have experimented with some Sievert models and my 2943 appears to give a good output but is quite noisy!

Is there anything that might burn quietly?

Less noise less heat Im afraid!

The two Sievert Cyclone burners (I own the larger 3525 model) are much quieter than standard burners for the amount of heat they kick out.

You could have a word with Fizzy on here who is Pendle Steam Boilers and see if he will supply just a burner. From previous conversations with him there are stratigically places slots that reduces the noise a lot. He does several sizes

Thanks for your replies. Watched the video and he does state that burners and boilers are both available separately.

Although my boiler is a horizontal water tube job it appears from the video that the burner design would work in a vertical or horizontal position. I will investigate further!

The engine to be supplied is a PM Research horizontal of 1 1/2 bore and 2 1/2 stroke and seems to run quite well on air so am looking forward to steaming it.

Had a word with Nigel from Pendle Steam and described my requirements to heat (as quietly as possible) my horizontal water tube boiler which measures 9 in long, 5 1/2 in diameter with a 2 1/4 inch flue, fitted with 8 cross water tubes.

This is an old design from the 50's and he suggested none of the burners would be able to supply the brut force heat that the original blowlamp burner would supply as my boiler is of an inefficient type!

Oh well, back to playing with Sievert and weed burners!

As in full-size , so in miniature.

Do not expect the same output from the boiler with the change you propose.

The paraffin flame was a different colour to your gas flame and the difference will be noticed in the steam raising ability , unless other changes to the boiler design are made.
