Good morning and Hello, I am currently in the process of retiring from a long career in the Army, engineering has been an interest of mine for years From afar. I have re-rolled my garden sheds ready for when I have more time on my hands. I have made one into a welding bay and enlisted myself onto a TIG course at Leeds college of building (I last left there in 1993 as a trained joiner). And the other currently has a 1979 Myford VMC mill in there, and is waiting for me to work out how to collect and move a Colchester student in too. I have never used these these machines before, but I am very confident I will enjoy it.

I hope to speak to you all in time and gain your advice and knowledge.

Welcome Paul, hope your retirement is a long and fruitful one…

There is lots of very useful information on here, usually from folk who have done it properly, I was in engineering nearly all my life and sometimes come here to check I'm still doing things right!

Thanks for the welcomes, very much appreciated.

I work with your REME mob a lot Rik as I'm RE and armoured, so breaking down is absolutely my business .

I'm going to look at fitting touch DRO to the mill, and then later the lathe too.

Paul, I retired from the REME in 1977, and started another carreer with an International Swiss Company LEICA,. I retired from them in 1999 settling back in Gillingham, kent. Then started work again at a smaller Coy. in Rochester and only stopped work in 2015 when made redundant at age 78.

Now fully retired I have a Myford ML10 and Seig Mill and a lot of other tooling. In process of making a 9F 3.5 gauge loco and other nits and bobs. Also a neekeeper, so forge ahead with your plans and enjoy yourself.

I can claim an association with the REME… yes !, I was that weekend soldier… Craftsman, 34th Northern Signals reg.LAD REME…Territorial reserves… # 24…..5…sir!. Still have my belt. Did my basic trng down at Boredon Hants.

Hope it all goes well. Mig is a doddle. Tig is easy to learn, but AC tig on alloy is ????. Still progressing myself on that one. The thing is that once learnt , it's forever.
