Hello All. Andy here, based in South Wales not a million miles away from Swansea. I have an old Myford ML7 and an EMCO F1 mill. I'm currently amusing myself machining "Turners Cubes" from wood and trying to learn some machining and CAD/CAM skills.

Eventually I'd like to design and build a 250cc V twin motorcycle engine using a lot of old Honda CG125 parts, and then put it into a bike.

I'm considering upgrading the EMCO F1 to something with a bit more travel but not looking to spend too much.

      Regards

      Andy

          Welcome to the Forum Andy.

Perhaps you should graduate to machining metal on your machines, wood dust is a very poor lubricant and might actually make your ML7 even older with it's effect on the white metal bearings. I think it would pay you dividends to clean things thoroughly before you make that change.

Your project sounds ambitious, is this to make a road use bike? There are plenty of bike enthusiasts on the Forum who will I'm sure be happy to pass on their experience.

          Regards Brian

Hello Andy, and welcome, I am also near Swansea in Southgate on the Gower and I also mess with motorcycles but old British stuff.

                Thanks for the welcomes chaps.

Brian – all my wood machining is done on the mill rather than the lathe and I ALWAYS have the vacuum cleaner on extracting dust as it's made. In fact I recently bought a new vacuum as my old "VAX" was starting to emit burning smells. I wouldn't say the new vacuum is good but so far I've had to retrieve a 13mm spanner and a big felt tip pen out of the drum, as well as plenty of sawdust and swarf.

Neil – I nearly bought a house in Barry but it fell through. Never mind.

Colin – I have a modern Triumph and an Indian Royal Enfield at the moment, as well as a CG125 and a Yamaha TY250. For some strange reason though I've developed a hankering for a British 250. I'm thinking along the lines of a Crusader, C15/Starfire or a Panther.

As for my fantasy (presently) engine project, I've got a couple of potential donor engines but I need to do a lot of sorting out and tidying up in the garage (and another bike build project) before I can make a proper start on it. I'll get there eventually! Lots of learning to do on the way.

                Andy

Hi there, i'm further down the coast ger Abergwaun. Have you read about the Carberry Vee twin. The bloke developed a vee twin based in the Enfied India 500cc single engine, which could be of interest to you as a process.
