Hi Chaps

Carl here from Surrey

I recently purchased a Super 7 and have an interest in all sorts of engineering. I dont build anything specific but made a few random bits and bobs from time to time as well as stationary steam engines from scratch and from castings etc

Ive owned a lathe and mill on and off for years and had a super 7 about 25 years ago so I have the basic knowledge of workshop tooling etc but looking to expand my skills. Im hoping knowledgable Super 7 owners her can advise on set ups, attachments specific to the 7 and other general workshop practices.

Hand turning rest (mostly for chamfers and rounding corners)

Mandrel Handle

Headstock and Versatile Dividing Heads.

Spring centre finder

Fixed steady

Overhead drive

Graduating tool

Spherical turning tool

Modifications and additions to the lathe

Meek Handwheel dial

Tailstock micrometer.

Retractable topslide with larger micrometer dial

Pinned and lockable gib strip on the top slide

Welcome, Carl, that is a very new looking Myford. It reminds me of the time the boss bought us a brand new super 7 long bed to go alongside the old ML7 we already had. This was when I worked in Cranleigh, and the lathe was supplied by Warco in their early days. The stupid charge hand switched it on and the chuck promptly unscrewed, bounced off the bed and on to the floor. Unfortunately it missed his foot. I had to stone the bruise on the bed before the lathe even cut metal. I don't think our one had the QC gearbox, it was back about 1980 or so.

Hi Mart, haha, ouch !

The lathe is from 96 so only a baby really It had barely been used and apart from the odd scuff here and there (Now touched up ) it was perfect. No saddle crash rash, three chucks, faceplates etc and an assortment of tooling oh and a rather nice indexing tool of the Gea Thomas design.

It had sat unused for the last ten years so I basically de-gunked cleaned and oiled and its ready to go

The mill is a warco, The same as the lathe I just got rid of to make way for this. Its 'ok' but that would be one of my questions, what people recommend as a good ( on a par with myford quality ) bench top milling machine ?

If your Warco mill is not top quality, then its a gamble trying to get a replacement which is guaranteed to be better. It might be better to get all the advice you can on making the best of it, there will be known improvements, especially for this type of mill, they are plentiful.

Yes it looks in great condition, even 96 is 25years now! Where does the time go?
