Hi,

Just joined today as it seems this place is a fountain of knowledge!

I'm a Design Engineer by trade designing machinery in 3D CAD. I went the university route though so never really got my hands dirty and have next to no machining experience!

I've got an interest in most things steam related and would like to try building a couple of I.C. engines further down the line as well. Looking to get my first lathe at some point with a view to starting with one or 2 of the Stuart kits, then I'll see where that takes me!

Welcome Ben. You'll find people on here to be very helpful if you have any questions, and remember that no questions are stupid if you don't know the answer.

I suspect that you may be asked a few questions now that CAD and CAM are becoming more and more accepted (and affordable) in model engineering.

Thanks Brian. No doubt the questions will come thick and fast before long!

Any CAD related questions I'm happy to answer if I possibly can. I work with Solidworks (2018 version currently) so if anyone has any specific questions on that I'll do my best.

A slight advantage I have I suppose is that while I may be new to machining, I can at least read drawings and understand tolerances!

I too work all day every day with SW2018, we have just upgraded from 2014 last week !!

Where are you based in Yorkshire, I live in West Yorks, but work just over the border in N Yorks.

Hi Phil,

I live in Tadcaster. I originally moved from Northumberland down to Huddersfield for Uni 17 years ago though. Then had various spells in Sowerby Bridge, Halifax then 10 years in bits of North Leeds so have done my share of West Yorks!
