Hello all, I am based in Leicestershire in the East Midlands. I have been lurking and soaking up the excellent information on the forum for a while.

Back in school days I did ‘O’ level Metalwork and Technical drawing followed by an OND in Engineering technology back in the 70’s. I then spent the next 30 years working in IT (strange how careers evolve). Having retired I wanted to get back to playing with Metal again and trying to remember the workshop practice lessons.

My workshop is in a single garage shared between woodwork tools and now a lathe and mill. I have had a Sieg SC4 for a little over a year. One of the bundles from ARC when Neil started the series in MEW. First task was a little Wobbler engine. Now working on a Stuart 10V. Having completed most of the turning on this, decided to keep the lathe company with an SX2.7 mill which I collected this week.

I thought it was time to introduce myself as although I’ve learnt lots from Jason's excellent Milling for Beginners articles I am sure I’ll have some milling questions.

Welcome Dave, I'm not too far from you, near Mansfield. ANY questions at all, just ask and you'll find everyone as helpful as possible.

              Thanks for the welcome gents.

Chris, I've only ever used Oxymoron on a Motorhome forum in the past. So anywhere else was not me. I just like the word!

Brian, Mansfield is not far. I really think of myself as a Nottinghamshire lad as that's where I was brought up. I attended Arnold and Carlton college which is/was not so far from you. Part of my course was to spend every Wednesday afternoon in the wonderful workshop.

                      Welcome to the forum Dave.

I thought an oxymoron was someone who got thrown out of a posh university…

I thought an oxymoron was somebody that turned on the oxygen before the acetylene when gas welding…..

("A before O or up we go" was my old instructor's saying, seems like thousands of years ago, when I was training)

Thanks for your welcomes guys. With the alternate definitions for 'Oxymoron' I thought I'd stumbled into a round of "I'm sorry I haven't a clue" from radio 4.  smiley
