      Hello everyone

I am relatively new, just bought an atlas 10F lathe (and found a spare one on ebay) and set up in the cellar.

I started making a model stationary steam engine in my youth at school in the early 80's. Its now time to finish it off and make some more.

Can anyone recommend any clubs around north London?

      Regards

      Ian

Hi Ian, welcome aboard. You could try Ickenham & District Society of Model Engineers a friendly bunch have a nice workshop. Harlington Locomotive Society have a good raised 5" & 3.5" track. But both might be slightly too West depending on your bit of North London!

There is the NLSMEE which meets in Finchley just above the North Circular from memory but has its track up near St Albans (that used to be in Barnet years ago) and further east there is a club at Chingford. To the north west is Harrow & Wembley and also Northolt MRC which is not just small stuff despite not having 'engineering' in its name.

Outside the M25 there is St Albans & District MES which is highly recommended by a regular participant of this forum and has very reasonable membership fees, laugh plus you can go along to a meeting to see what it is like without joining or having made a model and even get a free biscuit with your free coffee.

If you are already in central London of an evening and your tube ticket is flexible you could look at going to the SMEE although it is south of the river.

Just to add to Bazyles comment re SMEE. Our general meetings are on Saturday afternoons (usually the first in the month) and we are near Loughborogh Junction station which is on the Thameslink line. Also accessible by bus or car – no restrictions on Saturday..

There is a meeting this Saturday if you are free – you are welcome to attend as a guest. Just turn up and make it known you are a guest and we will be happy to show you round.

                Hello Ian,

                Welcome to the forum.

Finishing off that project sounds a great way to make a start.

                Neil

                  Thank you all

I am very tempted to visit SMEE, missed this months meeting but will try and visit July's.

Finchley is closest and interest in that too…so many options wink
