Hi,been a big fan of steam since I was a kid,I was lucky to be around when steam engines were the norm on railways.

Just bought myself a nice ' Minnie' traction engine and will be looking for advice.

      Thanks

      Terry

Hi Terry welcome to the forum. There are many members with steam engines on the forum but it may be advantageous to join a club with practicable hands on help.

Hi David, thanks. Ive contacted four clubs and only one has responded lol (BO?)

I intend to run it on air around 10-15 PSI first, then perhaps get the boiler tested and steam it up, Ive found a miniature pulse jet on e bay that I can convert a s a blower?

If you've been trying to email local clubs I'd try phoning them, or just turning up. Lots of clubs have websites that they never read, the new secretary doesn't do internet or similar.

I don't think your blower is ideal, Blackgates do one, **LINK** or ex MOD radar blowers **LINK**

The latter are probably OK for a Minnie on 12v, but realy need 24 for bigger boilers. You can get 12/24 volt step up converters for not a lot on ebay

As Duncan says you need a proper steam raising blower, the heat from the fire will melt those little plastic fan blades.

Try it on paraffin soaked charcoal first as that is easier in the smaller sizes, proper stuff not charcoal brickets

Fellow club member made a 'blower' using one of those 12v fans that blow up camping beds etc, he had a chimney extension if I recall correctly around 18" long with a smaller piece of pipe mounted at 45 deg into which he pushed the 12v fan this arrangement worked OK on his 4" Garrett

Ive finally made an adaptor, connected it to my airbrush compressor and it runs nicely on 10 psi! having the boiler checked and Im going to attempt a steam up with coal!!
