      Hi All,

I have a General Repair Shop in the UK and have recently taken receipt of an Old Flat Belt Lathe which is dated (Or at least I think thats what it means) Feb 15 1897.

I am about to connect it to a Motor in My Workshop, I fully intend to restore this piece of History but first I may need some advice so will use this forum.

I repair Vacuum Cleaners and Lawn Mowers and although I was an Electrician and a Welder/Plater in my former years I was a DJ for most of my Adult life and have forgitten a lot of my Engineering Education so please bear with my posts.

      Nik

Ahh, likely need a line shaft overhead and steam engine outside to restore it properlysmiley.

Welcome to the forum and have some fun.

At least we can immediately get something back from you! Now, about my 'oover and old push lawn mower (II'll dig them out of the shed)…smiley

                Welcome to the forum Nik,

A pic of your lathe may help us identify it for you.

Im in Hellesdon, Just outside Norwich.

I know there are a couple of Teeth out of that Big Gear as pictured – I intend to build those up with Cast Rods and shape them back into Teeth.

Here we are, If you want to see anything in detail please ask.

The ONLY marking I can find are pictures – I am yet to take Paint off so there may well be a Makers Name somewhere.

I don't intend installing a Steam Engine to drive this – I have a Motor. cheeky

                      Welcome!

Many a good tune played on an old fiddle!

Could well be a very useful machine, if used carefully.

Looks to have a screwcutting ability, if you have the change gears.

If there is a Model Engineering Club/Society near you, joining will open up another source of advice and help.

Well worth the journey to meetings and to meet like minded characters.

                      Howard
