      hi all

I am in the process of looking for a small lathe, I am retired and I am doing some model aircraft flying.

I am also starting to build aircraft and would like to be able to make small parts mainly aluminium and brass but the old occasion steel but not very big.

I would have liked one with a mill head attached but ther reviews of the machine mart ones are not very good.

Anyway that's me I'm from the north east Stockton so anyone having any interesting machines let me know

      Mick

I can't really help with that, Michael … but I'm welcoming you.

[this should bump your post up to the top for a while]

            Hello Michael,

            Welcome to the forum.

If the parts you want to mill are small, a vertical slide might be a cheap and convenient option until you decide on a separate mill.

Another option might be an old Unimat with a milling attachment.

            Neil

Welcome Mick, nice to have another member from the better part of the country, I grew up in Marton but moved away with work and settled in the south for my sins but still visit regularly. Having owned a couple of machines with built in milling heads one being of the seig C1 sort of size and one much larger, I can honestly say that whilst they look like an attractive proposition, they are very limited in what they can achieve in a milling function. Personally, I would look at the mini lathe – Seig C3 maybe for what you are doing and as Neil suggested a vertical slide and then decide of you need a dedicated mill alongside that.
