On behalf of myself and my colleagues, may I express our horror at the terrible, unprovoked attacks in Christchurch.

We have many readers and forum members in NZ and several in and around Christchurch; I hope you and your friends and families are safe.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone affected by this tragedy.

        Neil

I was in the local library, went after lunch to sort out some jigsaw puzzles, then someone came in and said have you heard about the shooting in town, the place is in lock down, next thing every one gets herded out and the library is closed. 49 dead as I write, and a similar number in hospital with gunshot wounds. The shootings took place at the two mosques in Christchurch about 7k apart. 4 people arrested, 1 charged so far(he's not a Kiwi).

Can I echo Neil's sentiments and say how appalled I am at the senseless violence visited on NZ.

My thoughts are for those killed and injured and their friends and family, along with the whole community.

I too echo Niels comments. I hope the families and friends of those killed and injured get the support of their own community and the support of all NZ people.

In total agreement with Neil, and the other posters.

Cannot see what is achieved by such senseless slaughter, causing such terrible, long lasting sorrow to so many families. Presumably it just feeds the incredible, pointless hatred that the perpetrators have against fellow beings.

I hope that everyone in the community rallies round in support, no matter what their creed, race or colour.

the New Zealand Prime Minister said it better than I ever could:

                    "… they are us."

My thought are with the friends and families and their loved ones lost and wounded in this senseless violence.

We live in a "Rainbow Nation" here in New Zealand where the ability to teat all as equals and with respect.

Hopefully this is an isolated incident. The next few days-weeks we will be able to relax a little but be more aware of what is happening around us.

The Bangladesh cricket team was very lucky that a press conference went over time, the players were heading to Friday Prayers, and were about a couple of hundred metres away from the Deans Av Mosque.  They had already lost two tests, and were due to play the third and final test at Hagley Oval, about two hundred metres as the crow flys from the Mosque, they went home today.

The message I sent to my family and friends in NZ yesterday morning : –

"Wow what a disaster in Christchurch could hardly believe it this morning. Unfortunately with all the atrocities committed by IS and their followers it was bound to happen somewhere, it seems clear they chose NZ as a softer target than other countries 😕 so sad "

What a sad world we live in ! my thoughts are with NZ and the families affected, such senseless violence will achieve nothing except more heartache

                          John
