It looks like the problems Photobucket users have in embedding their photos on this website have come to an abrupt end. That is unless they all want to spend $40 a month to continue using it…

What's the difficulty? They only want $399 per year to continue 3rd party hosting.

          sad

            Photobucket are getting greedy….imho

Its not just this site where folk post their photos, other sites I visit are reporting members having difficulty in retaining or adding their images….

Consideration is now being given by actual forum host site to expand data storage to permit uploads and retention

of posted images….Of course this has a cost impact on the forum sponser, revenue generated from advertising or donation to meet?

We've just had the same problem on the Austin Seven Friends site. Many people are looking for alternatives such as Flickr, Postimage and Servimg.com.

Because Photobucket has withdrawn its support for 3rd party hosting across the board – unless you pay the ransom.

                  .

                  HOW MUCH.?? surprise

I have recently knocked together the bones of a new website this week

I only paid a little more than that for 200 GB of storage for a whole year.!

When I was in the hosting control panel setting up for it to take 'Wordpress' I did notice that there was a ready made facility for photo galleries. – Maybe perhaps a good idea for some to purchase their own domain and webspace that they then have total control of.

They also do very cheap packages for 25 GB of storage (couple of quid a month I think) – Which if images are properly sized for display on sites is an awful lot of images for most peoples needs.

Still OK for me but I have been paying a modest $30 a year for the last few years, which gives me 20gb storage and no adverts, looks like they are targeting the free users first.

It is still possible to view any of the images in a thread that have the image that Neil posted, just right click and open in a new tab which opens the image in PB along with the adverts.

As I said in response to your (nasty) PM. I have absolutely no idea why my statement has go you so fired up. It certainly wasn't intended as any kind of personal attack, nor do I see why you have interpreted it that way.

I could, perhaps have made my meaning slightly clearer by, say, underlining "across the board" to emphasise that that was the salient point but if that omission nets me a PM such as yours then heaven help us.

I'm struggling to see what anyone could find offensive in Bandersnatch's comment, aside from the fact that the situation generally well known to Photobucket users.

Could we all calm down a bit please? This is not life and death stuff.

I have just come across IMGUR, a site that hosts pictures for 'free'. Don't know whether this would be an alternative to Photobucket.

I've been using Dropbox for several years, free for the Basic plan (2 GB) and works well for posting photos on various forums (fora?).

For larger volume cloud storage I use Megasync it is free, secure and all data is encrypted. Photos from my smartphone are uploaded automatically and they appear in a folder on my computer and tablet. No public links though.

I've seen comments on other forums in the last couple of weeks that Google changed its terms of service for Dropbox and eliminated public sharing or something. I took that to mean that you could only get the file by using a password.

Sorry that's a bit vague – just going from memory. In a mailing-list forum I use, one user, who provided a "repository of useful files" for the mailing-list topic was having to find alternative arrangements.

The system for links changed some time ago. Public links without passwords are still available but the old links no longer work.

Not had any complaints about getting the drawings I have on there for my current Chuky build.

Would not be that good for me with photos as I have hit my 2GB limit a few times and have about 7Gb of photos on PB

Yeah, but PB isn't worth having in the first place. I only reluctantly joined because one forum I post on occasionally doesn't seem to have the option of having photos stored on the forum server. I haven't decided yet whether to change the picture hosting on that forum, or just bin my membership. Either way I will be dumping PB and inviting them to dance all the way to the film awards. I'm not even using 1% of my allowance, so it's no big deal if the pictures are lost for ever. And of course I have copies on my computer.

As a point of interest I've tried to embed images in posts on several other forums using Flickr and imgur and they've both failed to work, all I get are clickable links, no photos. Not sure what the solution is but I'm not keen on uploading images directly to a forum site if I can help it. A guy on a couple of other sites had a disagreement with the site and simply broke the links in PB to prevent his images being viewed. You obviously couldn't do this if you've uploaded directly to a site.

I seem to recall one primadonna member we had here that stored the images to his build log upon this site.

On one of his throwing his toys out of the pram escapades he just simply deleted the album thus the threads relating to the images lost them and thus made no more sense than broken biscuits. – In this case it was particularly selfish as many members had also contributed much time, effort and thought to his threads.

Well it looks like I may have been correct when I said earlier that PB were hitting the freeloaders first. Those of us who were paying even the modest $30 per year will still be able to get all the services prior to the fee changes until end of December 2018.

Maybe by then they might have altered the pricing structure but at least it gives me time to decide what to do at my own pace and not make a rush decision.

PS Nick, I can think of someone else who also deleted thingswink
