Is there a plan to replace the current non-functional spell checker in the post editor? Tonight, although I know it doesn't work, without thinking, I tried to invoke it and all that comes up is a blank page with "Spell Checker" and "Cancel on it and it freezes the page. The only way out seems to be to go back one page or re-click on "Forums", with the result that everything previously typed is lost. Most frustrating.

You might consider enabling a language tool for your browser to spell check wherever. As a master of the typo, I find it handy, although the one I use likes Oxford commas a little too much.

Plenty of posts about plans to upgrade the forum software. Last time it got a good airing it seemed most actually did not want it to be changed.devil

I'm using Firefox under Win10. Highlighted spelling errors in Gmail are corrected by right-clicking and selecting a suggestion from the pop-up, but in this forum the pop-up doesn't appear unless I hold the CTRL key when right-clicking. Maybe it will work for you too.

My iPad can auto correct have to watch it carefully though or a mistyped word can become something unexpected.

I use to use the inbuilt checker so don't know why it no longer works. I have not changed my system. My only gripe is that so many spell checker keep using the bloody American spellings no wonder kids don't know how to spell correctly today.

Why should we bother with correct spelling and grammar when we are constantly being told by those in the know that English is an evolving language? MOST reasonable web sites have a spline chunker as a STANDARD feature without having to resort to burning vulpines or whatever.

"Most wanted no change?" Bovine excreta JB., Spline Chunk and post numbers go back to when the site was FIRST started.

                    Regards Ian.

Circlip, The option is to fumble along with this purpose written software or go for a complete change of software.. When this was last aired the vast majority did not want that change to new software. Have a read here and see what others said

Speell checker ha salways worked for me by putting a squiggly red line under any errors as they are typed.

Have I misconstrued you last post Jason if I assume that the change to new forum software has been abandoned?

When the subject was last aired I understood that work was in hand to update or change to a new format. I'm happy(ish) with it as it is so I'm not pushing for change but I do look forward to it being given the boot.

Its certainly taking a long time, opinions in that post may or may not have slowed it down.

Like Jason I get the red squiggly line as I type, this is a function of the browser though and nothing to do with the Forum software. I use Firefox and the spellcheck can be enabled from settings. Other browsers will be similar.

The forum's built-in spell checker is working OK with me today on Ubuntu/Firefox 96.0.3 Which Browser and Operating System are you using John?

The forum's spell checker is under the ABC button in the edit window if anyone wants to play with it.

SCAYT is short for 'Spell Check As You Type'. Enabling SCAYT turns on options allowing various languages and dictionaries etc to be chosen. Note after activating SCAYT misspelled 'furum' is now underlined in red below:

A source of confusion is that most modern Browsers also have a built-in Spell Checker. Holding down CTRL while right-clicking is the usual way of asking a browser to spell check, and it should work on all websites. Browser spell checking has largely supplanted the older arrangement whereby every website editor came with it's own private spell checker.

Microsoft Edge has it under settings/languages. Make sure you have English(UK) as the language and that spell checking is turned on and using English(UK)
