Ca n someone please explain– When I come to this site I often have to log-in, sometimes there is a box to tick to stay logged-in, sometimes not. There does not seem to be any reasons for this. I would like to know what is happening, is it my system or the web system ?

I think it's the forum. I always tick stay logged in but unlike other forums it doesn't work. Sometimes I stay logged in for a couple of days but often for just one day of late.

It happens to me too I wondered if it was the way I leave the forum or delete my browsing history

It's the forum software. It's been like that for years. A bit annoying but you get used to it sad

It will log you out if you log in on another computer so if you use a desktop and say a tablet each time you log in with one it will log you out on the other.

I've never looked at this but suspect that the logging in is retained in a cookie type thing and these have a life time set when they are stored on peoples machines.

As they sometimes last for a couple of days there must be something odd about the software that calc's the life time. Going on other forums they can clearly be set to last for an extremely long time. I'd say for ever going on some forums I am in.

JasonB It would appear that you are quite right I just tried it on my desktop and my laptop and it does indeed log out Thanks

It keeps a max of one machine logged in per account.

Logging into another machine or another MHS website will log you out.

Forgeting to tick 'keep me logged in' will log you off after a while. There shoudl always be a box to stay logged on.

After about a week you will be logged off automatically.

If you use Firefox it will offer to remember your username and password.

Also – we have had to make repeated improvements to software and servers to cope with the growing load of the various forums as well as other uses. When this planned maintenance occurs, everyone gets logged off.

Well now I'm even more confused !. I only have the one computer so it's not that. The" tick to stay logged in "box does not always appear, This makes me think I have two different sites? Google is supposed to be remembering my details.

                          Gordon,

Yes … I have seen this problem in the past [although it seems to be working O.K. for me at the moment] … If I recall correctly, I had the box available on the home-page, but not if logging-in from the 'forum posts' page.

When you enter your password, you get sent back to the page you were on before.

Unfortunately, if you are mis-enter your password once, then when you re-enter it correctly it goes back … to the password entry page and you think you haven't logged in (but you have). so you try again and…

I will ask again if this behaviour can be changed.

If you are SURE your password is right, then after entering on it try moving to a different page and DON'T request a password reset unless you have to, as some mail companies think our automated messages are spam

If you do get really stuck, email me and I will send you a new password – there's one bewildered forum member (I won't embarrass him) who collects a new password at least once every month

I've had no problems with actual password for a while now, did have in the past. I still can't figure out why get a "remember me " box to tick and sometimes do not. But it's only a minor problem.

                                  Gordon,

I can't remember the details, but I think it's something to do with one of the Cookies [there are at least two] or the chronological order in which they were set.
