Trying to consult the archive mags. Every time I click on the desired mag. I get a message to update my Adobe programme. Which I do. Although it is already at version 11. Despite never having difficulty before. I cannot seem to get past this.

        Help?

Still cannot access archive magazines. When I make a selection I get a pop up telling me to load Adobe 11 which I do on every attempt. But the pop up persists and I have no archive availability.
Please could someone suggest a solution for this. Very frustrated after 3 weeks of perseverance.

If you need it explaining you don't have it so thats OK as it can cause problems with this site, bisically stops you seeing the adverts down the side.

Did you see my edit above?

Rod, make sure you close any Adobe programmes when you process updates otherwise there's a good chance they will fail, that's my experience anyway!

To make sure any programmes are actually closed, press 'CTL+ALT+DEL' this will open Windows Task Manager, when the window opens, go to the bottom and click 'All Users' this will then display All running processes, scan down the list and look for any running Adobe processes!
Any that you find, right click the entry, then select 'End Process' you'll get a warning of dire consequences, but kill the process anyway!
(This is useful for killing off non responding programmes too)!

Also reboot the computer following any updates, this will allow any files in use to be updated, especially in the registry, they can't be changed otherwise because they may be in use at the time and may be why Adobe isn't picking up the newer version!

Might also be worth clearing your browser cookie and history caches!

One last point, Anti-Virus and Anti-Malware programmes generally have some sort of Registry protection in place, and if it's set for auto management, you won't know some changes have been blocked, this could stop files there being updated, so you may have to resort to updating with your AV programmes temporarily closed, but if you do go that route, switch off any routers and/or any WiFi connections to stop your pc accessing the web unprotected!

As a last resort, I have on a few occasions uninstalled Adobe products completely, rebooted the PC, and then installed the latest version downloaded directly from Adobe's website!

I should add that in all the years I've been using PC's, Adobe has invariably caused me the most grief on updates right across their product range!

                  John.

You mention Adobe 11. Adobe is the name of a software house, not a programme. Is it asking for Adobe acrobat Reader or Adobe Flash Player? You need both. Also make sure that your anti virus isn't blocking Flash.

                    Russell.

Rod, in my 'Add /Remove' programmes list, I'm showing:

Adobe Flash Player 11 Activex (Version 11.9.900.152)
Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin (Version 11.9.900.117
                      Adobe Reader 11 (Version 11.0.05)

My stuff updates automatically so as far as I know (not checked) these are the latest versions,

You need to check the plugins used by your browser, not sure what your 'BT Internet Browser' is because I don't know what BT install by default, (I stopped using their software because it was so intrusive) so can't advise how to check for them, I do know BT isn't optimised for Opera, but is for Chrome and Firefox, not sure about Internet Explorer because I've not used it since IE7!

Open your browser, from the top toolbar click 'Help' then 'About xxxxx' that will bring up another window stating the name of the browser and the version number!

                      John.

You do not need Adobe reader to view the archives but you do need Flash.

I regard Adobe as the same as Norton, a virus. I run Foxit free as a PDF reader, far quicker, leaner and less hassle.

I do have to run Flash but get messages telling me I have to update every two days even though I'm on the latest version. A reboot usually cures it for a few hours it's that bad.

With the new HTML5 web coding there is no need to run flash but it's down to the web developers to implement it.

I keep firing off emails to Youtube, Google, the BBC pointing this out and if more did it then they would drop Adobe.

                            Hi Rod,

As the magazine opens in a pop-up window when clicked it might be that popups are blocked in your web browser. If 'BT Internet Browser' is a version of Internet Explorer then you can check by going to Tools->Pop-up Blocker to see if it's on or off.

                              Hi Rod,

I had the same problem as you and fixed it by removing all flash player programs, control panel – programs features, and then re-installing flash payer, even then I had to download and install the stand alone version.

Another option is to install Google Chrome.

                              Steve….

                                Hi,

For the last few weeks I've been going through the MEW archive and printing any articles that look interesting as a preparation for renewing my subs next month with the "Print only" option (thus losing access to the archive). However, yesterday after a Flash upgrade I could not get the popup to work in Chrome (browser of choice). It still worked in Firefox though so obviously my pc was the problem. What seemed to be causing the problem was that Chrome has its own Flash player built-in, called Pepper Flash. Firefox uses a plug-in which was OK. I disabled the Pepper Flash player and all is well again. Instructions here:

Easily reversible if it doesn't work for you.

Just thought I'd let others know in case they have the same problem.

Tried GaryM`s solution. Still get the same Adobe message to update. I now have flash 12.
