Which I hate, probably the world worst spell checker and I avoid using it mostly.

Recently my typing has deteriorated and I find that I manage to get all the letters into a words but not always in the right order. With SCAYT enabled, it does highlight what it thinks are errors so I can then correct them.

What I want to do is have SCAYT enabled, 'all the time'. At present I have to turn it on whenever I want to use it, even if I stay logged in.

Where is the setting saved? is it in a cookie or somewhere else?

If there is a setting I have never found it.

Hopefully when they update this website we might get a decent replacement and not something thrown out by Wordperfect or Lotus Notes.

More simply, they could remove the disabling of the user's browser based speel checker and put the irritation to bed once and for all.

The reason I asked is that when it was first thrust upon us I think it used to remember its settings (language etc).

              Maybe I was wrong.

I wonder whether the MHT web designers ever look at these (web related) postings, they certainly dont seem to take part or respond.

No, you're not wrong Ian. It did do that – by means of cookies. In particular it kept a cookie for your personal dictionary (custom spellings that you add).

Problem is that if you ever delete all cookies for security reasons, you've lost everything. Spell checking is something makes much more sense at the browser level at the user's choice rather than having it foisted on him/her by the editor (text editor I mean).

As for the MHT web designers, I don't know how much difference it makes. I don't think the text editor is custom software. It's just off-the-shelf. MTM has picked it an is probably a bit stuck with it by now – bit of an effort to changes horses this far along. It's the software writers that need to be reading this forum …. although I suppose MTM could pass the comments along if they deigned to read them.

I did have a cookie clear out before I posed the question as I hoped it would make a new cookie from scratch and get rid of any bad values or whatever.

I found about 10 different cookies related to this site but maybe I missed the one that matters?

Going back to a point I mentioned originally, MTM (or was it MHS then?) created a forum section related to website questions and comments, WHY?

No one from MTM seems to monitor or read posts here or if they do they must take pleasure in seeing us struggle and squirm, maybe its good staff entertainment. Thats certainly what it feels like from this end!

                    Booger.

Had to do a search for SCAYT

First time I've come across that acronym.

Geoff – Still not too old to learn thank goodness.

Its been (nearly) staring you in the face whilst you have been writing posts on this forum!

If you look at the icons in the editing window and click on the little arrow on the 'ABC' scayt will come up. Its the creators own acronym for their product.

Regardless of age, this is one brand of spell checker that nobody should have to learn about!

I am a very fast four-finger typist, and this editor seems to suffer a timelag which creates some really odd results, mostly missed letters. I type a lot better in word.

                          You've got me thinking….

Its mostly this website where I see the majority of my typing errors, everyone make the occasional mistake but I seem to have more letter problems typing posts on this site than I do in Word or several other programmes I use. You could be right about the timelag, its par for the course with MTM's history.
